Finally finished with finals Fall 2011! heading to the airport with my kindle filled with books & a mind reeling with thoughts. I had an incredible semester rife with good and bad events, and now is the time to plan and reflect on it.

Mahabaleshwar, India

a place I will be seeing soon! : )one thing I LOVE about mahabaleshwar is how foggy and ethereal it always looks. it makes me feel like I’m IN a dream, so different from the city life of delhi, bombay, and chennai where other members of my disjointed, fragmented family live. I’m so glad I get to see a different side to India this time around. Hopefully I’ll learn some proper Marathi or Hindi. Hopefully I can slow down for a while in the presence of my grandparents and great-grandmother.

I love temple elephants. They are the most endearing spiritual animals I’ve ever come into contact with. They seem to KNOW what you’re thinking, and they can bless you by hitting you on the head gently. :)

New Delhi, India: Two middle-aged women in polka-dot saris on a cycle rickshaw.

wouldn’t it be nice to live like that, once all the hectic middle age years are through? I hope that when I get to be 60, 70, 80 years old, I will still have these close friends and have that opportunity to relax and chat about our LONG lives that have flown by.

prehistoric pop art in Madurai temple (by marinfinito)

I love this temple. If I had to pick my ORIGIN, it’d be the city of Madurai. It’s my maternal homeground, my great-grandmother’s home. Our family lands. I always identified more with my mother’s side of the family. Especially this meenakshi temple.

Brides of India
Maharashtrian, Mangalorean, Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu, and Tamilian.

YAY! The last one is my favorite. :)
I LOVE the Tamilian one— only one where the guy actually is in the picture, and you can feel the weight of the event on both of their shoulders. Their faces say “THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!”
I had my parents explain a Tamil wedding, and I am totally biased, but our traditions are so much better than some of the other regions. B)
(Notice the absence of Gujurati weddings!)
